A new Suntory single malt, the Yamazaki Limited Edition 2014

Today, Suntory unveils an exclusive version of the single malt whisky, produced from their very first distillery and named Yamazaki Limited Edition 2014. We invite you to discover this newly composed brew that may be mistaken as a simple no-aged single malt...

Due to the inabundance of old whiskies, and after presenting their new permanent versions of the Yamazaki and the Hakushu, known as the Distiller's Reserve, Suntory surprises us once again by offering a limted edition of its Yamazaki single malt.

Like for the Distiller's Reserve, Suntory expertly refines their compositions, proving to us once again that quality does not necessarily require a certain number of years. Even if we could consider the Yamazaki Limited Edition 2014 as an ageless brew, it is a newly assembled work of young and old whiskies that has been aged in barrels of different origins.

The Yamazaki Limited Edition 2014 is composed of three single malts:

  • a single malt aged 20 years in sherry casks made out of European oak ; these barrels were used for maturating red wines.
  • another single malt aged 20 years in port wine casks made out of European oak ; these barrels were previously used for maturing port wines.
  • a young single malt aged in bourbon barrels made out of American white oak.

Bottled at 43 % above volume, this newly brewed jewel is now available in Japan at a reasonable price of 8000 Yens. We hope that one day this new single malt will soon be at the European market and delight the many whisky lovers abroad !

Last week I toured the distillery in Kyoto and bought a bottle of this after tasting it, although I may lack the proper language to describe the taste it was delicious and certainly worth the reasonable price (around £50), it will be hard to decide what to do with it, bearing in mind that if I do drink it I will never be able to replace it.

I received this whiskey for my birthday and it was everything that they say and more. Since then, I have ordered two more bottles from http://www.rakuten.com very nice aroma and great on the palate.

Is there any information on how many bottles were released?

  4. Gats

In addition to the number of bottles being released, can I also ask if
    A) there is inflation about what is the proportion of the 20yr old single malt and what is the proportion of the young malt; and
    B) what is the age of the young malt.

To me the description above is laughable. It claims it’s not a regular NAS yet Eeks I b exactl that until of cours more information is made available.

    Many thanks

The total number of bottles is approximately 10,800 with a total of two releases….the 1st half were released with a different box than the later….I have no idea about the break down in the alcohol age %….seems several people have placed value on it in this market because it’s “limited to 2014 edition” and they have no plans to release a limited edition 2015, 2016, etc.

  6. Kryptonite

Yamazaki Limited Edition 2015 was released on May 20 2015.

I was visiting the Yamazaki distillery end of May and bought the limited edition 2015. I asked about the proportion of the age of the whisky in this edition and was told the young malt was 7 yrs. Couldn’t give me the exact proportion.
